Good afternoon!
By the time you wake up tomorrow, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will have announced the nominees for the 98th Oscars.
Experts are predicting vampire thriller ‘Sinners’ (starring Michael B. Jordan) to lead the pack with as many as 15 nominations. It means the Ryan Coogler film could be about to set a new all-time Oscar nomination record.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another’ won’t be far behind, with forecasters tipping the dark comedy action (starring Leonardo DiCaprio) to secure at least a dozen nominations.
‘Frankenstein’, ‘Hamnet', and ‘Marty Supreme’ are all expected to pick up several nods, too.
Keep your fingers crossed for Australian Rose Byrne, who just earned a Golden Globe for her performance in ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’.
Jacob Elordi is another Aussie also in contention for ‘Frankenstein’, but don’t rule out wildcards Joel Edgerton and Nick Cave for their involvement in ‘Train Dreams’.

“Where would you rather live? A place that actually believes in science… where people can work together cohesively… or a place where everybody’s at each other’s throats, extremely polarised, turning its back on science”.

Prince Harry waved at photographers and onlookers as he arrived at London’s High Court for day one of a trial against the Daily Mail on Monday. He is leading a group of high-profile UK figures, including Elton John and Liz Hurley, who have accused the Daily Mail’s publisher, Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), of invading their privacy. The group alleges ANL used unlawful information-gathering tactics to snoop on them for sensational headlines. Harry is expected to give evidence on Friday.

Actor and comedian Russell Brand has appeared in a London court via video link, weeks after he was charged with additional sexual offences. In May 2025, Brand pleaded not guilty to one count of indecent assault, one count of sexual assault, and two counts of rape against four women. The alleged offences took place between 1999 and 2005. Now, he has been accused of rape and sexual assault against two other women in 2009. The 50-year-old is due in court for proceedings relating to the fresh charges on 17 February. Brand will face trial for the original charges in June.

Taylor Swift will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Other 2026 inductees include the founding members of Kiss, Alanis Morissette, and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart – the songwriter behind Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’, and Beyoncé hits including ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘Break My Soul’. Performers and non-performers become eligible for induction 20 years after the first commercial release of a song. Taylor Swift’s debut single, ‘Tim McGraw’, came out in 2006, making 2026 her first eligible year for Hall of Fame recognition. Swift and her fellow inductees will be recognised at a ceremony in New York this June.

The last of Sydney’s ‘Lockout Laws’ have been phased out, exactly 12 years after they were implemented. Snap legislation responding to alcohol-fuelled violence forced central Sydney bars to close doors to new patrons at 1.30am and stop serving drinks at 3am. Some restrictions were eased in 2021, allowing punters to buy drinks until 3.30am. That rule has now been scrapped altogether. Venues will no longer be required to use plastic cups after midnight, or have security staff who monitor intoxication. NSW Music and Night-time Economy Minister John Graham said the Lockout Laws “had good intentions but a diabolical impact”. “These were the laws that saw Madonna and Justin Bieber not allowed into their own afterparties, and the decimation of the club scene that spawned Rufus Du Sol and Flight Facilities,” he added.

And the nominees for the worst films of the year are…
The nominations for the 46th Golden Raspberry Awards, aka ‘the Razzies’, have been announced.
Every year, the Razzies recognise Hollywood’s worst films and performances. If winning an Oscar is considered the highest recognition in cinema, a Razzie is the complete opposite.
Here’s what you need to know about Hollywood’s least-coveted achievement.
Nominations
It’s Razzies tradition for nominations to be revealed the day before Oscar nominees are announced.
This year, the live-action adaptation of ‘Snow White’ and Ice Cube’s ‘War of the Worlds’ remake have the most Razzie nominations – with six each.
While ‘Snow White’ is competing for Worst Picture and Worst Director, the film’s stars, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, were not nominated.
The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) is up for worst actor for ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’. Tesfaye plays a fictionalised version of himself in the movie, which has been nominated for a total of five Razzies.
The worst actor category is stacked with musician-turned-filmstars, with Ice Cube and Jared Leto also nominated.
Aussie Rebel Wilson is nominated for worst actress for her performance in ‘Bride Hard’.
The category also includes Ariana DeBose (‘Love Hurts’), Natalie Portman (‘Fountain Of Youth’) and Michelle Yeoh (for ‘Star Trek: Section 31’).
Past winners
Some of Hollywood’s biggest names have won a Razzie, including several Academy Award winners.
Notably, Sandra Bullock won a Razie in 2010 for ‘All About Steve’. The following day, her performance in ‘The Blind Side’ earned her an Oscar.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, and even Marlon Brando have all been awarded both a Razzie and an Oscar: The highest and lowest honours in film.
Special mention goes to Glenn Close, whose performance in ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ earned her an Oscar and a Razie nomination in 2021.
The winners of the 46th annual Razies will be announced on 14 March. The 98th Academy Awards will take place the next day.

A timeline of the Beckham family fallout
This week, Brooklyn Beckham broke his silence (and the internet) with a series of Instagram stories about his relationship with his parents, Victoria and David Beckham.
The posts accused his parents of trying to sabotage his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, through “endless attacks… sent to the press”.
Brooklyn also alleges his mother “danced very inappropriately” with him at his 2022 wedding.
“I never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” he said.
It’s the first time Brooklyn has publicly addressed the feud, after several years of rumoured turmoil. So, how did we get here?
April 2022: The wedding
Brooklyn and actress Nicola Peltz dated for six months before their engagement in 2020. The pair were married at the Peltz Family’s Palm Beach estate in 2022.
This lavish three-day celebration has become somewhat infamous, and (as we now know) was a turning point in Brooklyn’s relationship with his parents.
One of the most contentious incidents to come out of it centred around Nicola’s gown. She wore a wedding dress designed by Valentino, rather than Victoria Beckham’s own fashion house.
At the time, Nicola told Variety she was going to wear a dress by Victoria, but had to choose something else when the designer “realised that her atelier couldn’t do it”.
Several publications also reported that Nicola broke down in tears at her wedding when singer Marc Anthony, who was performing at the reception, dedicated a song to Victoria instead of the bride.
Both parties denied the incident. Nicola told Grazia that the Beckhams were "great in-laws," while Victoria called it “a beautiful wedding”.
2023-2024: Beckham turmoil grows
Despite reports of a rift after the wedding, the family maintained a public image of harmony for several months.
In 2023, Brooklyn and Nicola joined Posh, Becks, and Brooklyn’s three siblings at the premiere of a Netflix documentary about David’s life.
That same year, things also appeared peaceful on social media, with Victoria dedicating a post to Nicola on her 28th birthday.
However, by the end of 2024, things seemed to have shifted.
Nicola stopped attending family events, and by 2025, so had her husband.
2025: Social media fallout
Last year, Brooklyn and Nicola were absent from the premiere of Victoria’s three-part Netflix docuseries, as well as David's 50th.
In August, Nicola and Brooklyn shared photos from a vow renewal ceremony. None of Brooklyn’s immediate family appears in the images.
In November, David received a Knighthood from King Charles III. Nicola and Brooklyn were absent from the ceremony at Windsor Castle. Then, in late December, eagle-eyed social media users noticed that Brooklyn and Nicola were no longer following Victoria and David, nor Brooklyn’s brothers Romeo and Cruz - and vice versa.
Initial reports claimed Victoria and David had blocked their son and daughter-in-law. However, Brooklyn’s younger brother Cruz posted to his Instagram denying this claim.
“My mum and dad would never unfollow their son …They woke up blocked … as did I,” Cruz wrote.
January 2026
The new year started with reports that Brooklyn had sent his parents a letter stipulating that they only contact their son through his lawyer.
This week, following years of speculation, Brooklyn claimed he was left with “no choice” but to “speak for myself and tell the truth”. The 26-year-old accused his parents of repeatedly leaking stories to the press.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” a statement posted to his Instagram stories read.
After years of reports that Nicola snubbed her mother-in-law’s wedding dress design, Brooklyn said Victoria “cancelled” Nicola’s gown at the last minute, “forcing her to urgently find a new dress.”
This point conflicts with a 2022 Vogue article on the wedding, which claimed Valentino spent over a year working on the dress.
In the lead-up to the wedding, Brooklyn also claims his parents pressured him into “signing away the rights” to his name. On the night, he said Victoria “hijacked” the first dance at his wedding, and “danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone”.
“We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment,” Brooklyn said.
Response
David was invited to speak on a CNBC panel at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this week, where he was asked about children’s safety on social media.
“It can be dangerous. But what I’ve found personally, especially with my kids as well, [is to] use it for the right reasons… educate them. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn. So, that’s what I try to teach my kids, but you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes.”
However, none of the Beckhams have responded directly to Brooklyn’s comments at the time of publishing.
